EXTERIOR

Sporty. Agile. Fierce.

With its aggressive lines, bold curves, imposing hood scoop and signature five-point black grille, there’s no mistaking that Mazdaspeed3 is the brute of the compact litter. The sloping roofline and rear spoiler converge on a convenient-yet-stylish hatchback rear-end for an aerodynamic exterior. The result: a quieter, more fuel-efficient ride with looks that can launch a traffic jam.

Mazdaspeed Style

From exclusive black painted exterior accents to high-tech conveniences, Mazdaspeed3 demands attention as much as it commands the road. A sport-tuned dual exhaust system; sleek, heated side mirrors; a unique rear lower valence and inner spoiler; and wide-set 18-inch gunmetal alloy wheels with low-profile all-season radial tires are just some of the racing-inspired details that sit atop this beast of a compact.

Advanced Illumination

Standard halogen headlights brightly illuminate the path ahead, or choose the available self-leveling Bi-Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights and instant-on LED taillights for brighter, sharper light in all conditions. A first for the compact segment, the available Adaptive Front-lighting System pivots the headlight beam based on speed and steering angle to illuminate the curves ahead, while the available halogen fog lights help improve vision in inclement weather.

PERFORMANCE

PERFORMANCE

Barely-tamed Power

Mazdaspeed3 is powered by nothing less than a turbocharged, direct-injected jolt of automotive adrenaline. Under the hood is a 263-horsepower, all-aluminum MZR 2.3L engine that cranks out 280 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Chain-driven dual overhead cams and variable intake-valve timing, combined with the Warner-Hitachi K04 turbocharger and air-to-air intercooler, help improve engine breathing to deliver untamed power and torque from green light to red.

Precision Shifting

The standard 6-speed close-ratio short-throw manual gearbox is quick and eager to transfer Mazdaspeed3’s turbocharged power to the pavement. It’s teamed with a torque-sensing conical limited-slip differential and the Mazda Advanced Torque Management System for extra control and serious grip.

Mazdaspeed Handling

Track-proven at Nűrburgring Raceway in Germany and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, this sport compact is tuned and toned to perform. Its 4-wheel independent MacPherson strut front and E-type multilink rear suspension give the Mazdaspeed3 its agile, precise handling. Front and rear stabilizer bars help keep the vehicle level in tight turns, while large 12.6-inch vented front rotors help dissipate heat faster for better control when braking. Finally, the revolutionary Electro-Hydraulic Power Assist Steering improves pinpoint steering power, enhances agility and increase fuel economy for the ultimate handling package.

SAFETY

Active Safety Features

You can’t put a price on safety, so we didn’t. These advanced safety features are standard on Mazdaspeed3:

  • 4-wheel disc brakes with an ABS and Brake Assist
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution ensures maximum stopping power
  • Dynamic Stability Control†† and Traction Control System
  • Tire-Pressure Monitoring System

Crash Protection

We’re serious about safety. So we analyzed every angle of the Mazdaspeed3 with protection in mind. “Triple H” construction, high tensile steel reinforcements and additional spot welds improve structural rigidity and strength without adding extra weight. Active front head rests and six standard airbags‡‡, including advanced front and front side-impact airbags and fast-inflating air curtains, help protect the driver and passengers in the event of a collision. Should the airbags deploy, the E911 feature, part of the Mazdaspeed3 Technology Package, uses Bluetooth® and your paired phone to call 911 automatically.

Blind Spot Monitoring

You can’t always see every car on the road. That's why the available class-exlusive Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System*** is here to help. It utilizes motion sensor technology to automatically warn you when a vehicle enters your blind spot by illuminating an icon in the corresponding side mirror. The icon blinks and a warning chime sounds when the driver initiates the turn signal.

Adaptive Front-Lighting System

The best way to help protect you and your passengers starts with seeing what’s ahead of you. The Adaptive Front-lighting System—a first in the compact class—automatically pivots the headlight beam up to 15° in the direction of your turn, based on vehicle speed and steering angle, thereby improving visibility and allowing you to spot potential hazards in your path.
