What is a recall or Special Service Program (SSP)? How do I determine if my vehicle is affected by a recall or SSP?
There are two forms of motor vehicle recalls or Non-Warranty Special Service Programs (SSPs): (1) emissions recalls, and (2) safety recalls. Automobile manufacturers and/or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) can initiate an emissions recall when a substantial number of a category of vehicles fails to meet the federal emissions standard. A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can either be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in order to repair a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Mazda works continuously with both government agencies on recalls for Mazda vehicles.

Non-Warranty Extension Special Service Programs (SSPs) are voluntary campaigns to improve customer satisfaction. Customers are contacted by mail, and customer participation is voluntary. Special Service Programs that have a Warranty Extension attached are not mandated recalls.

To find out if your vehicle has been recalled or has an SSP where we have notified NHTSA, please click here to use our online tool.

Note: If you are logged into MyMazda and usually go to the Recall section, the link above will take you to the Mazda online tool.

What brand of tire does Mazda recommend when a replacement is needed?

I want to change the size of my wheels or tires. What does Mazda recommend?
Mazda does not recommend altering or modifying vehicle tire or wheel sizes from the specifications to which they were originally built. Doing so may adversely impact your New-Vehicle Limited Warranty and driving safety. All of the parts fitted to your Mazda vehicle from the factory have been tested to ensure they meet Mazda standards. The wheels fitted at the factory are engineered by Mazda and tested to ensure they are safe and will not interfere with any other components or systems in your vehicle.

Fitting larger wheels or tires can affect the operation of Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)††, Traction Control System (TCS) and Roll Stability Control (RSC), which all have very complex programming. A seemingly insignificant change to the vehicle ride height, or the size of a wheel or tire, may prevent these systems from performing correctly. In addition, there may also be insufficient spacing between other components within the vicinity (such as the suspension strut, control arm, steering rack, brake calipers, etc.).

Please note that Mazda’s New-Vehicle Limited Warranty may be compromised where a fault occurs that is related to, or caused by, any modification. For specific guidelines and coverage information, please contact your local Mazda Dealer. Locate Dealer

What is a recall?
There are two forms of recalls for motor vehicles: (1) emissions recalls, and (2) safety recalls. Both automobile manufacturers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency can initiate an emissions recall when a substantial number of a category of vehicles fails to meet the emissions standard. A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can either be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to repair a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. The government posts the recall information on their website through the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Administration). Please keep in mind the recall number on the NHTSA website is different from the campaign number issued by Mazda and provided to customers.

Mazda recommends you contact your local Mazda Dealer for questions of a technical nature regarding storage. However, if you are storing your vehicle longer than 30 days, we recommend the following:

  1.    1. Disconnect the battery or attach a battery tender charger to keep the electrical system charged.
